Celebrating the Legacy of Joe Meads, P.E.

After 38 years of dedicated service, my brother, Joe Meads, has retired from Sain Associates. It’s hard to put into words the impact he has had, not only on our company but also on the people and communities he has served. His legacy will be solidified as one of faith, integrity, hard work, and genuine kindness. I am incredibly proud to celebrate his career.

A Legacy of Family and Faith

When you reach a certain point in life, you begin to reflect on the legacy you leave behind. For Joe, that legacy begins with his family. Our upbringing was not always easy, but we never take the blessings we’ve received for granted. Joe and his wife, Rachel, have been married for 40 years, which is a testament to their love, faith, and resilience for one another. Without a doubt, his greatest legacy is his family.

Beyond his family, Joe has always lived his life deeply rooted in his faith. Hope Community Church, formerly McElwain Baptist Church, in Irondale, Alabama, has been a significant part of his life, and he has dedicated himself to serving others. Whether through his involvement with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Brother Bryan Mission, or his mission trips to Brazil, Joe has always had a heart for helping others.

Colossians 3:23-24 is the perfect reflection of how Joe has approached his life and career:  “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

A Legacy in the Industry and Economic Development

Joe has made a lasting impact on Alabama’s economic development landscape as well. His work has been instrumental in shaping communities across the state, and his involvement in organizations such as ASCE, ACEC, EDAA, and ABC has helped elevate the engineering profession.

His influence can be seen in many projects he has been involved in, but one of the most notable is Jefferson Metropolitan Park at McCalla (JeffMet McCalla). Sain Associates provided the initial master planning for this 739-acre industrial park, and Joe played a vital role in its success. Today, the park is home to major distribution centers and manufacturing facilities that continue to drive economic growth in Jefferson County, Alabama.

 A Legacy at Sain Associates

Joe has been much more than a longtime owner at Sain Associates, he has been an amazing cornerstone of our company’s culture.

Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” Joe’s career is a testament to this truth. His dedication and service have left a lasting legacy, and his influence will be felt for years to come.

I’ve been blessed with some incredible colleagues, but Joe has always stood out—his door was always open, and he was always willing to lend a hand or share his wisdom. He has led by example, mentoring colleagues and demonstrating what it means to put others first.

Looking Ahead

Joe, we’re going to miss you around here, but I have a feeling you won’t be slowing down anytime soon. Your legacy at Sain Associates, in our community, and in our family will never be forgotten. You’ve been more than a brother and a business partner—you’ve been a steady presence and a true friend.

On behalf of everyone at Sain Associates, thank you for your dedication, leadership, and friendship. Enjoy this new chapter because you’ve more than earned it! Remember our door is always open, don’t be a stranger!
