US-411 at SR-77 Intersection Evaluation and Improvements

Rainbow City, AL

CLIENT: ALDOT

GRANT FUNDING: Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation & Improvement Program II (ATRIP-II)

Sain Associates provided traffic engineering and planning services for the Intersection of SR-77 and US-411 in Rainbow City, Alabama. A comprehensive traffic study was conducted to evaluate existing traffic operations, project future no-build conditions, and analyze potential improvement alternatives. Signal timing recommendations were also developed to address operational efficiency. The results of this study equipped ALDOT with the technical information needed to better understand current performance and anticipate future needs at this critical intersection.

Building on the study findings, it was determined that improvements were necessary to enhance safety and operations at this intersection. Sain assisted the City of Rainbow City with the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation & Improvement Program II (ATRIP-II) process, providing support with the grant application as well as engineering design services. Following the grant award, Sain prepared construction-ready plans for a new traffic signal and roadway resurfacing at the intersection of SR-77 and Church Street. In addition, the team developed design plans to modify existing traffic signals at the following locations:

  • US-411 at SR-77
  • US-411 at Church Street
  • US-411 at Market Street
  • US-411 at Sonic
  • SR-77 at Independent Drive

All design plans were developed in accordance with ALDOT’s Guidelines for Design and Construction Projects (GDCP), standard drawings, and specifications.
