The Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham (RPCGB), in conjunction with the City of Hoover, completed a feasibility study for the Lorna Road corridor through the APPLE Program. The study evaluated pedestrian accommodations, street lighting, and traffic operations along the corridor from US-31/SR-150 to Chapel Hill Road. Existing conditions were assessed using GIS mapping, crash data, traffic counts, pedestrian observations, and field reviews to document current roadway operations and infrastructure.
Based on the analysis, Sain developed conceptual recommendations including additional pedestrian crossings, enhanced street lighting, and evaluation of a potential road diet along the four-lane section of Lorna Road. The project included preparation of conceptual drawings, identification of potential right-of-way, environmental, and utility impacts, and development of planning-level cost estimates. A final report summarized the findings and recommended improvements to support future funding opportunities and corridor planning efforts.
