McCala, Alabama
CLIENT: Jefferson County Economic and Industrial Development Authority

Sain Associates provided services on a master plan for an approximate 700-acre park in McCalla, Alabama, to address infrastructure needs, transportation network needs and improvements, and feasibility in 1998. Master plan development incorporated rail access, transportation access needs, wetland limitations, and soils issues for developments for the park, known as Jeff Met McCalla, including surveying and design of approximately 9,000 feet of three-lane roadways and master storm drainage as well as obtaining an individual wetland permit from the US Army Corps of Engineers. A key aspect of the design was to avoid wetland areas and to prepare a strategy for mitigating any impacts.
Sain has served as engineer of record for this Class A Industrial Park and assisted the Jefferson County Economic and Industrial Development Authority (JCEIDA). The park is recognized as one of the top Industrial Parks in the state, with over $1 Billion in capital investment and nearly 5,000 jobs. Sain Associates has provided surveying and civil engineering services for over half of the projects in the park, including Gestamp and Salon Centric Distribution Center.
In 2019, Sain assisted JCEIDA with surveying and civil engineering services to purchase 600 acres adjacent to Jeff Met McCalla. This has led to the purchase of property by Norfolk Southern for future development and the Gulf Distributing project, as well as a $1.1 Billion food and beverage industry project. Sain has provided surveying and civil engineering services for both the Gulf Distribution and the food and beverage industry projects.
