As we pause to honor Veterans Day, Sain proudly recognizes and thanks all who have served and continue to serve our country. Today, we shine a special light on our very own IT Director, Dan Mellott, whose dedication and service exemplify the values of commitment, teamwork, and integrity that we hold dear at Sain.
Dan served in the United States Army for a total of nine years, including 18 months of active duty in Berlin, Germany, where he worked in Signal Intelligence before transitioning to the Army Reserve for the remainder of his service. His time in Berlin left a lasting impression, both personally and professionally.

“I learned to appreciate every day and to truly value freedom,” Dan reflected.
These lessons, grounded in discipline and gratitude, continue to shape his leadership style and approach to problem-solving today. Through his military experience, Dan discovered the true value of teamwork: understanding that every role, no matter how small it may seem, is vital to achieving a common goal. That insight carries through in his work at Sain, where collaboration is key to success.
One of the most enduring principles Dan carried from his time in the Army is the importance of attention to detail. His background in intelligence taught him critical skills like pattern recognition and data analysis, which translate seamlessly into his work in information technology and geographic information systems (GIS). “Maps tell you stories that spreadsheets can’t,” Dan shared. “Recognizing patterns is essential; it’s how you uncover meaning in data.”
When asked what he’s most proud of from his time in service, Dan’s answer was simple and heartfelt:
“I’m proud to have been a part of securing freedom and protecting what we love.”
For Dan, Veterans Day is a moment of remembrance and appreciation — a time to honor those who have sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy every day. We are deeply grateful for Dan and all the veterans who have served with courage, dedication, and honor. Their service reminds us of the strength that comes from unity, purpose, and gratitude.
From all of us at Sain, thank you to our veterans and active service members. Your commitment inspires us every day.
