Michael Tucker Park

Anniston, AL

CLIENT: City of Anniston

FUNDING: TAP

Sain Associates provided engineering and surveying services for the Michael Tucker Park Trailhead in Anniston, Alabama. The project was funded through the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and administered through the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) in coordination with the City of Anniston, with design reviews and approvals completed in accordance with ALDOT requirements.

The purpose of the project was to improve access to the existing trailhead and provide better connections to the Chief Ladiga Trail in both directions. Improvements included sidewalk connections adjacent to the parking lot and trail, additional parking with a crushed stone surface, rehabilitation of the existing asphalt parking lot, concrete ADA parking pads near the trail and restroom facility, lighting for the parking area and sidewalk, and relocation of utility poles to improve accessibility.

Sain performed topographic surveying to support the design and prepared construction plans in accordance with ALDOT requirements for TAP projects. Design elements included sidewalk and parking lot improvements, drainage improvements associated with curb and gutter and sidewalk construction, and an infiltration basin to support stormwater quality.

Utility coordination was also a key component of the project due to the relocation of existing utility poles within the parking lot. Sain coordinated with utility providers to support accessibility improvements and reduce conflicts with the proposed design.

Sain also prepared contract documents, advertising materials, and bidding assistance for the project. This included preparing technical specifications using ALDOT specifications, developing required special conditions, preparing the bid advertisement, and coordinating publication of the advertisement.

Overall, the Michael Tucker Park Trailhead Project improved accessibility, parking, safety, and trail connectivity at an important trailhead along the Chief Ladiga Trail, supporting continued recreational use and access within the Anniston community.
