Talladega, AL
CLIENT: City of Talladega

The City of Talladega contracted with Sain Associates to develop a pavement maintenance plan. The two primary components of the project were to evaluate the current pavement conditions and then develop recommendations for best managing and maintaining the City’s pavements. Approximately 160 miles of roadway were evaluated. Sain field personnel walked approximately 1,400 samples of roadway pavement. Each sample was approximately 100 feet in length and was reviewed to log distress types, quantities, and severity. The data was collected using mobile applications and scored per the ASTM standard method D6433 to determine Pavement Condition Index (PCI) scores across the network.
By following the ASTM standard, the City could be assured that any bias was removed and the data accurately reflected the condition of the roadways. Using the collected data, Sain developed a 10-year pavement maintenance plan that prioritized maintenance activities such as crack sealing, surface treatments, and mill and overlay to help the City preserve pavement conditions and make the most efficient use of maintenance funding.
