Sain Associates provided traffic and transportation planning and engineering services for an access management study along AL-5 in Walker County, Alabama. The study corridor extended approximately 3.3 miles from just west of Filter Plant Road to just west of Sipsey Road. The purpose of the project was to develop an access management plan to reduce conflict points, improve roadway safety, and preserve the corridor’s capacity while continuing to serve the needs of the public.
Sain evaluated existing conditions by reviewing mapping and aerial information, collecting traffic and crash data, and conducting field reviews of the corridor. Based on this analysis, Sain developed conceptual recommendations to improve access management and traffic operations along the corridor. The project included coordination with ALDOT and Walker County, preparation of conceptual improvement plans, development of planning-level cost estimates, and preparation of a report documenting the findings and recommendations.
