Sain Associates provided site design and surveying services for the Chalk Line Pump Track in Anniston, Alabama. The pump track project originated from the City’s vision to repurpose part of the former Chalk Line Mill property. Located in an area of historic industrial use, the site presented both opportunities and constraints. Our team collaborated with the City of Anniston and Macknally Land Design to assess site conditions, develop layout alternatives, and design a functional, low-maintenance facility that allows for future expansion. The completed project includes a durable asphalt pump track designed for riders of all skill levels and serves as a unique recreational amenity near the Chief Ladiga Trail.
Site design services included site layout, grading, drainage, erosion control, and permitting under Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) requirements. The final design featured a durable asphalt pump track, ADA-accessible parking spaces, a 6-space gravel parking lot, and a 5′ sidewalk, and use of impervious surfaces to limit the stormwater detention to less than 0.50 acres achieved the balance between desired amenities, environmental considerations, and project cost.
Surveying services included boundary survey of the park, topographic mapping, and utility locations. Sain Associates used this information to prepare a Master Plan for the future vision of the park. The survey data, along with the park’s proximity to the Chief Ladiga Trail, supported the site’s suitability for a pump track and informed the final design.
