Swancott Road Water Line

Huntsville, AL

CLIENT: Huntsville Utilities

Sain Associates provided engineering and project management services for Huntsville Utilities on the Swancott Water Line Project. Our team guided the project from design through bidding, construction administration, and inspection, delivering critical water infrastructure improvements to the community.

The project involved the installation of a 16-inch HDPE water line beginning at the intersection of Swancott Road and SW Rockhouse Road and ending just north of the Swancott Road and Pryor Road (north intersection). A major feature included an 800 foot horizontal directional bore beneath Beaverdam Creek, requiring careful coordination with permitting agencies to protect environmentally sensitive areas.

Sain’s responsibilities included reviewing existing CADD design files, incorporating modifications, and updating drawings with the most current details before providing a stamped set of construction-ready documents. We also prepared the bid form, technical specifications, and special conditions for use during the bidding phase. During construction, our team administered the contract, provided field oversight, and completed inspections in compliance with plans, specifications, and permitting requirements.

Key project elements included approximately 3,030 linear feet of 16-inch HDPE pipe, 840 linear feet of ductile iron pipe, and an 800-foot horizontal directional bore under Beaverdam Creek. The project also required coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, and the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge. The contractor was allotted 150 calendar days to complete the work.

Sain’s involvement throughout all phases of the project provided Huntsville Utilities with a streamlined process, resulting in a project that met regulatory requirements, stayed on schedule, and delivered long-term benefits to the community.
