Sain’s Newest Shareholder: Paul Gilliam, P.E., PTOE

Last month, we announced the formation of a company ownership program designed to expand company ownership opportunities to three key levels: associate, principal, and senior principal. With the new program, Sain added three new associatesNathan Currie, P.E., Paul Gilliam, P.E., PTOE, and Jeff Stephenson, P.E., PTOE. For this week’s blog, we are highlighting the accomplishments of Paul Gilliam.

Paul serves as a Senior Project Manager for our Traffic team. He joined Sain Associates in November 2018 with the acquisition of his firm, Vision Engineering and Planning, LLC.

Paul has over 25 years of experience performing and managing traffic engineering and transportation planning projects in over a dozen states for a variety of public and private sector clients. He is an expert in travel demand forecasting, particularly the interaction between traffic simulation and travel demand modeling. He has extensive experience in intersection safety studies, traffic signal timing, traffic signal design and traffic impact studies.

Paul has been a long-time member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) and the American Planning Association (APA).

Paul and his wife Tracee have been married for 20 years, and they have two sons, Vincent and Avery. When Paul is not working, he enjoys fishing, kickboxing, and spending time with his family.

As a fun way to get to know the newest shareholders, we sat down with each of the owners and asked several rapid-fire questions:

Q: If you weren’t an engineer, what would you be doing? I would be an NBA analyst with Shaq and Charles Barkley. I am a big basketball fan and really appreciate the nuances in the various offensive sets the NBA teams run.

Q: What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given? Always plan properly for meetings no matter what the topic.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would you do? I would buy a couple of vacation homes and invest in inner city and rural schools across the country.

Q: What’s your favorite place in the world? It’s hard to say, but I guess I’ll go with my hometown Milwaukee. The city has the best corned beef sandwiches, pizza, and frozen custard! Plus, my mother and closest friends live there.

Q: If we looked at your Spotify account right now, what would be at the top of your “most played” list? I enjoy listening to electronic dance music. One of my favorite artists is Motor City Drum Ensemble.
