St. Clair County Jail

Pell City, AL

ARCHITECT: CMH Architects

In the fall of 2020, the St. Clair County Commission approved a proposal for demolishing the existing St. Clair County Jail to be replaced by a larger facility, on condition that the construction process would not exceed $25 million. Due to the numerous structural issues of the old facility, the County decided the structure was no longer safe for occupation. Sain provided construction plans to build a new parking lot on the old jail site, along with construction plans for a new jail. Construction plans included site layout, grading, storm, and utility plans. Sain Associates teamed with CMH Architects, Inc. to demolish the existing jail and build a new and larger jail on the adjacent block. The new building is approximately 55,000 square feet and can house almost 330 inmates: more than double the capacity of the old facility. To keep up with demand without increasing staffing, technological integration was considered throughout the project to allow centralized control of electrical systems. The project was completed in January 2023.
