Intern Spotlight – Ashton Moore

Ashton Moore

One of the goals of an internship is to give students hands-on experience in a particular industry. Since beginning her internship at Sain, Ashton Moore considers herself immersed in engineering. We sat down with Ashton to learn more about her Sain experience so far and discussed her plans for after this summer.

Interning at Sain seemed like a no-brainer for Ashton because she admired our diverse project portfolio and emphasis on company culture. In 2019, Ashton interned with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), so she was interested to see the differences between working in the private and public sectors. Over the last month, she has worked with our Traffic and Site teams and has enjoyed working on different projects from the planning phase to a finished product. Ashton mentioned that she has enjoyed working alongside Sain’s engineers and has seen the value of collaboration and working together as a team.

Ashton attends the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. She is active in the UAB student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and Chi Epsilon. Ashton will graduate in 2022 and plans to pursue a graduate degree in engineering.

Ashton encourages future interns to consider Sain because an internship allows students to apply practices from the classroom into the real world of engineering. She also shared that if you are unsure about exactly what you want to do, look for a company like Sain that can provide you with opportunities to explore different types of work.
