Bringing Light to Dark Situations: Designs for Hope

Designs for Hope is making great strides in providing sustainable electricity, clean water, and other innovative solutions to Christian disciple makers in developing countries. The Alabama-based nonprofit uses engineering as a missional ministry to serve communities in Uganda, Kenya, Sri Lanka, India, and Nicaragua.

Sain has supported Designs for Hope’s mission over the past several years, but we felt it was time to partner with the organization through a companywide event. After all, the Sain team loves any excuse to give back and volunteer!

On Friday, March 6, the Designs for Hope team visited our office for a Solar Cube Party. They shared their mission and taught us how to construct solar cubes. After following step-by-step instructions, Sain built 22 solar cube units. Executive Director Chris Bond explained that some communities in South Africa experience 12 hours of darkness each day. It was hard for us to fathom this reality while we were sitting in our conference room with luxuries like electricity, air conditioning, and running water. Fortunately, Designs for Hope equips pastors in South Africa with products, like our solar cubes, that aid in studying scripture, hosting prayer services, and participating in discipleship.

As a civil engineering firm, we love partnering with an organization that provides engineering-related products and services that can help change people’s lives. If you’d like to make a difference in the lives of those without electricity, visit Designs for Hope’s website and learn more about their Solar Cube Build Parties.
