Anthony Aspito: Intern Spotlight

This summer, Sain welcomed two student interns to the team. Their internship experience has exposed them to multiple civil engineering projects both in and out of the office.

A few weeks ago, we spotlighted CE&I Intern Matt Hardegree. This week, we are excited to highlight Anthony Aspito. Since the beginning of the summer, Anthony has been working with our Survey, Infrastructure, and Site teams. He is a rising junior at Auburn University and majors in Civil Engineering. He is involved in several clubs at Auburn, including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Auburn Team Handball Club, and Catholic Youth Organization (CYO).

We asked Anthony a few questions to get to know him a little better:

Why did you want to intern at Sain?

I wanted to intern at Sain because I wanted to get insight into the real-world application of engineering. Another reason was that I am unsure of what kind of civil engineering I want to go into, and Sain is a unique company in that it is a full-service engineering firm. My internship has allowed me to experience a little bit of everything from surveying to infrastructure to site planning.

What lessons have you learned during your internship?

Some lessons that I have learned at Sain so far include:

  • learning how a project comes together from the planning phase to a finished product,
  • learning how to use some new programs and functions that aid in the design process,
  • realizing communication is the key to success (especially now more than ever),
  • and being collaborative creates a great outcome.

What are your plans and goals after interning at Sain?

My plans after interning with Sain are to take the knowledge that I have gained from this great experience and apply it to my schoolwork and future place of employment. My goal is to graduate from Auburn and find a job that will allow me to grow in my career.

What advice do you have for prospective interns?

If you are on the fence about doing an internship, DO IT! It provides you with the knowledge that you will not gain from classes at school. You will pick up skills and lessons that will stay with you for the rest of your career. If you are unsure about exactly what you want to do, look for a company like Sain that provides you with opportunities to explore different kinds of work. Lastly, stay open-minded because you will gain that much more out of the internship.
