Doing nothing often leads to the very best of something.
-Winnie the Pooh
The great scholar, Winnie the Pooh, knew a thing or two about what we need to be fulfilled each day. At Sain, we improve road safety, are a part of bringing a new industry to a city, and positively impact our communities. But with all this serious stuff, we also know it’s important to find ways to relax and cut loose—often for us, the best times we have together are when we are doing nothing in particular—just having fun.
Enter the Funtime Committee. In our 50 years in business, we’ve had relays, barbeques, camping, and birthday parties—Sain Associates might sound like a summer camp at times because our Funtime Committee places a huge emphasis on hosting events where we have intentional time to connect.
We continue to plan events like our chili cookoff, bowling outings, Baron’s game, and of course, impromptu lunches with coworkers. We also create events for the whole family so that we have time to meet each other’s partners and children.
As I flip through our Sain photo albums, I can mark the decades by the many haircuts and fashion statements. Through the years, our events have evolved, but we’ve always made time for the Sain community. For instance, we have albums full of pictures of just baby showers and wedding showers. The number of families that we have celebrated is astounding. Then, we have entire albums filled with just fishing trips—I’ve never met as many people devoted to fishing as I have here at Sain.
It doesn’t matter what we are doing, but time together is important to us. It makes our engineering and surveying better because we get to know one another. This focus on relationship-building is an integral part of Sain, and it’s been a foundation for the company since the beginning.
