Earlier this month, we announced the formation of a company ownership program designed to expand company ownership opportunities to three key levels: associate, principal, and senior principal. With the new program, Sain added three new associates – Nathan Currie, P.E., Paul Gilliam, P.E., PTOE, and Jeff Stephenson, P.E., PTOE. We spotlighted Jeff Stephenson a couple of weeks ago, and this week we will highlight the accomplishments of Nathan Currie.
Nathan serves as a Project Manager for our Infrastructure team, where he is responsible for managing the design, scheduling, and budgeting of projects. Nathan has over 14 years of engineering experience serving state and county DOT’s, municipalities, and local and national private developers. His experience includes the design of roadways and multi-use paths, roundabouts, intersection and interchange improvements, and the design of drainage systems and stormwater management facilities. Nathan is also experienced in preparing ADA transition plans, and he has advised multiple municipalities on issues related to ADA compliance within public rights-of-way.
Nathan has been with Sain since moving to the Birmingham area in 2016. Before joining Sain, much of Nathan’s experience concentrated on projects throughout the metro-Atlanta area, including many urban projects focused on road diet, streetscape improvements, and the addition of bike lanes and pedestrian facilities. Nathan has been a long-time member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and has recently become a charter member of the American Society of Highway Engineers’ Alabama Section.
Nathan and his wife Kim live in Homewood with their four children, and they are active members at Christ Fellowship Church. When Nathan is not working, he’s often spending time with his family or exploring the outdoors by hiking, climbing, or biking.
As a fun way to get to know the newest shareholders, we sat down with each of the owners and asked several rapid-fire questions:
Q: If you weren’t an engineer, what would you be doing? I would love to be an outdoor adventure guide or own a bike shop!
Q: What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given? Galations 6:7 – “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” I’d say this applies not only to our spiritual lives but also to other areas of our lives. If we plant good things in our lives, good will result. Likewise, bad things yield bad results.
Q: What’s your favorite place in the world? I enjoy traveling around the world, but one of my favorite places is the mountains of Colorado.
Q: If we looked at your Spotify account right now, what would be at the top of your “most played” list? Need to Breathe – it’s the last concert I attended prior to COVID. I can’t wait for another one!
