Sain Associates was busy this summer working on two large site engineering projects – Von Braun IV at Redstone Arsenal and what was called “Project Deepsouth” until a couple of weeks ago.
At the end of September, Thyssenkrupp of North America announced they will build a $13 million facility in Woodstock, Alabama, a small community in Bibb County, to process and distribute steel materials (Project Deepsouth).
Long before the news was released, Sain has been working on all the site related design for the 100,000-square-foot building, including site work, grading, storm drainage and utilities. We are also designing a railroad spur that comes off the existing railroad that’s adjacent to the site and comes into the building. This project is located in Woodstock’s 565-acre Scott. G. Davis Industrial Park.
Construction is scheduled to start this month for the facility that will employ 20 people initially and as many as 45 within 5 years. The craned building will have four lines for processing materials like carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel.
We think the new facility will have a big impact on the Birmingham area and the state since Thyssenkrup is an internationally recognized company, often associated with Mobile. Now Bibb County, which is much closer to Birmingham, can establish itself as a future business location for other companies.
Now that the announcement has been made, we’re excited to continue our work on the project and look forward to seeing it completed in 8-10 months.
