Cahaba Road

Sain designed the streetscape improvements for the enhancement of Cahaba Road from near Lane Park Road to north of the Birmingham Zoo and Birmingham Botanical Gardens . This “road diet” project was designed to beautify the road corridor as it serves the City’s two largest tourist attractions and to accommodate all modes of transportation. The project included removing pavement, adding storm sewer, sidewalks, a retaining wall, a roundabout, paving, landscaping, and utility adjustments. Sain maintained full time construction inspection staff and served as the project manager from concept through construction. Construction held its own challenges as it was all constructed under traffic. The roundabout at the Zoo entrance was opened to traffic in April 2015, one of the Zoo’s busiest months.
