Getting to Know Paul Gilliam

Our recent announcement of acquiring Vision Engineering and Planning (Vision E&P), a transportation planning and engineering DBE firm with locations in Columbia, MD and Atlanta, GA, brings Paul Gilliam, the current President of Vision E&P, to the Sain team.

Paul is from Milwaukee, WI, and a die-hard Packers and Bucks fan. He has been married to his wife, Tracee for 17 years, and they have two sons, Vincent and Avery as well as a guinea pig named Charlie.

We asked Paul how he got into engineering: “When I was 8 or 9 years old, I used to study traffic patterns on the main streets around Milwaukee, and then I would duplicate the traffic patterns with my hot wheels in the basement! I would add lanes and see how the patterns changed and what would happen if I added more hot wheels (traffic). I guess I was destined to be a Traffic Engineer!”

Paul has 24 years of experience performing and managing construction engineering, roadway and rail transit design, traffic engineering, and transportation planning projects in over a dozen states for a variety of public and private sector clients.

He is an expert in Travel Demand Forecasting; particularly the interaction between Traffic Simulation and Travel Demand Modeling. He has extensive experience in intersection safety studies, traffic signal timing, traffic signal design, signal warrant analysis, capacity analysis, and Traffic Impact Studies. Gilliam is also involved in cutting-edge research and applications of Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) models and Regional ITS Planning.

Paul is excited to join forces with Sain. “Combined, I believe we can be a leading planning consultant firm in Alabama and the Southeast. I’m most excited to join such a great group of people for the long term!”

Outside of work Paul enjoys kickboxing, fishing, and of course, watching the Packers and Bucks play!
