I recently attended the 2017 annual ICSC RECon in Las Vegas, Nevada. With more than 37,000 attendees, RECon is the largest retail real estate convention in the world. RECon serves as a gathering place for professionals to network and make deals that will positively impact economic development in their area. I was really excited to be there and to represent Sain Associates.
RECon is hosted each year by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) which serves the global retail real estate industry. They provide their impressive network of members with resources such as connections and industry insights as they work together to shape public policy. I’ve been attending this conference representing Sain Associates for about nine or ten years.
Sunday evening, the Economic Development Association of Alabama (EDAA) hosted an Alabama Retail reception. Roughly 250 people from the state of Alabama were present at the event, including mayors and other economic development officials. It was a great opportunity to network with clients and others involved in an industry that Sain has been serving for a while.
On Monday I toured the expansive exhibit area (walking a total of ten miles!) visiting with representatives of organizations from all over the country and even some from overseas. Exhibitors included those involved in the retail real estate industry: municipalities, retail brands, retail technology companies, etc.
I had a wonderful time visiting Las Vegas and learning even more about the retail real estate industry. The retail real estate industry has been a core component of our business since the beginning in 1972 even though we have continued to diversify into other markets and services. I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to surround myself with some of the best and brightest in the field.
