Clear the Clutter Before Year End

Construction is underway in our new office space.

How many people will be going into the office on any of the days between Christmas and New Year’s? We’ll be here, but we admit that business is usually a little slow. That seems to be the case for many other companies as well, but it doesn’t mean you can’t still be productive.

We love taking these days to clear the clutter, organize the piles that have built up and get prepared for the start of a new year. Since the phones aren’t usually ringing off the hook and email inboxes don’t fill up as fast, it’s the perfect time to really buckle down and get organized for a new year.

Clutter seems to be a growing problem in the U.S.  Did you know that the National Self Storage Association reports 1 in every 10 U.S. households currently rent a self-storage unit!? Clearly we Americans have a lot of stuff. Perhaps that’s why the National Association of Professional Organizers declares January as National Get Organized Month.

Clearing clutter is especially important for us since we’ll be moving to a new office in March of 2013! After making our home at the Sain Centre on West Valley Avenue in Homewood for 22 years, we’re moving to a new location off of Highway 280.

That move puts a sense of urgency behind our need to clear the clutter.  This month and next we’ll be getting rid of a lot of stuff, scanning documents, and recycling paper. Our hope is that when March rolls around, we won’t be moving any junk or unnecessary items.

So if you’ll be in the office on these in-between days too, consider devoting some time to cleaning out and getting ready for what will hopefully be a great 2013.  You’ll feel better without the excess baggage.

We’ll be back on the blog after New Year’s to share some of the things we’re most looking forward to for next year!
