Diane Hammonds, the Branch Manager for Sain’s Louisiana [...]
Just over a year ago, everyone at Sain Associates had a fantastic time celebrating our 40th anniversary with clients, colleagues, friends and family at our fish fry. That event started our anniversary year off strong, and it continued to be a defining year for us with several big things taking place.
Office Move. In March, we moved our corporate headquarters from West Valley Avenue to Perimeter Park. The change has been very positive and a huge morale boost for our staff. We enjoyed hosting an open house and having many visitors to the new office in the following months. We’ve had more people visit in the last few months than we’d had in years at the old office. We’re able to host meetings and training events here. We’ve already had a number of opportunities to connect with people and increase our image with clients. Concurrent with our move, we also completely updated and upgraded our IT network
Remembering Hack Sain. In late June, our founder, Charles Hack Sain passed away. While Mr. Sain had not been active in the operations of Sain Associates in many years, he was a guiding force, resource and mentor for us all. He paved the way for us and left a huge legacy in the engineering business. As the third generation of owners at Sain Associates, we are so thankful for all that Mr. Sain did for our company and industry. We feel that he gave us everything we need to continue in his footsteps for years to come.
Expanding and Strengthening Services. While some people talk about diversifying only when the economy is not doing well, this has always been important to us. In particular, we put a big focus on expanding our ITS and GIS services during the past year by adding a staff member who specializes in ITS, and adding on-call GIS services. We are proud to be one of the most diverse firms in the state in the types of services we offer and the specialization that we have.
Many New Projects. During our 40th year, we were thankful to see our work opportunities pick up. We’re doing more work with the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and their ATRIP program that provides funding to cities and counties for roadway and bridge projects. We are also enjoying our continued work with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). Last fall we became the city engineer for Irondale, so we are continuing to grow in the work we do for municipalities. More federal opportunities have also been coming our way, like the work we’re doing on the new Treasury Building in downtown Birmingham and the VA project in Montgomery. We also continue to focus on safety and are doing a safety and corridor study for McFarland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa and a safety study on Highway 280 in Phenix City .
As we move into our 41st year, we can’t wait to see what the future brings. As we do every year at this time, we’ve started working on strategic planning for next year. That effort involves interviewing key clients and doing research to better understand the market, find out how we can continue meeting our clients’ needs, how to better understand where we are as a company and how to keep moving forward.
We won’t have another milestone anniversary until 2022, but we look forward with anticipation to the things we’ll be celebrating when it comes.
